Flux command
FLUX manually loads one carried Flux pod into the ship's active neutron-flux pile. It takes no arguments.
FLUX
Classic GE
With a pod aboard, the command consumes one and sets the active pile to 65,000 units. It does this even if the pile was already full; unused active energy is discarded rather than added to the replacement charge. The game warns if that was the last pod. With no pod aboard, it reports the shortage and leaves the active pile unchanged.
In classic, the periodic automatic loader is separate from this command and waits for active flux to fall below 5,000. Manually loading a pod can therefore help before an energy-intensive action that the periodic loader has not yet supplied, such as a hyper-phaser shot when active flux is 5,500. See classic low-flux failures for other examples.
ge-next
Since ge-next 0.2, energy-using systems use a shared fluxstat() check that loads a pod if the active pile cannot meet their pending cost. Manual FLUX is no longer required to make those systems work when pods are available. The command remains for players who deliberately want to replace their active pile before it is empty. It requests 65,535 units from fluxstat(), above the pile's 65,000-unit maximum, so entering FLUX with a pod aboard always consumes one, even when active flux is full. With no pod, it reports that none are available.
ge-next moved FLUX out of the gameplay-command help list and kept HELP FLUX as a topic. The command itself still works.
