A flux pod is a carried replacement for a ship's active neutron-flux pile. It is an inventory item, not additional energy automatically pooled with the current charge. The stock classic and ge-next settings give each pod a weight of 20 tons and a base price of 200 credits; local prices and ship cargo limits can still affect how many can be acquired.
Replacement charge
Loading one pod consumes the item and sets active flux to 65,000 units. It does not add 65,000 to the energy already in the pile; any unused active charge is discarded. If the loaded pod was the last one aboard, the game warns the player. Pods can be bought, sold, transferred, jettisoned, and recovered from defeated ships subject to the ordinary inventory and cargo-capacity rules.
In classic GE, a ship-state check automatically loads one pod only when active flux is below 5,000. The FLUX command can load one earlier, including when the active pile is already full. A pod in cargo therefore does not guarantee that a low-energy ship system can use it immediately; see classic low-flux failures.
In ge-next, the shared energy check loads a pod when the active pile cannot meet a supported system's pending cost. A pod can thus be loaded with more than 5,000 flux still remaining, such as when a hyper-phaser needs 5,000 but the pile has 4,000. The manual command remains available and still discards the current pile's remaining charge if used. Carrying pods is especially important for repeated missile launches, cloak upkeep, and sustained warp travel; the natural background recharge is small.
