GECP
Galactic Empire Control Panel (GECP) is a graphical player frontend by Dave Walton for classic Galactic Empire. It provides a visual interface for navigation, combat, and mapping rather than replacing the game server.
Compatibility: GECP works with classic GE, not ge-next or ge-arena. Its classic protocol assumptions should not be taken as support for the later games.
Versions and features
The project page describes a Java-based version 2, intended to run wherever Java 8 is available, and an earlier DOS version that can also be run under DOSBox. The frontend offers a map, hotkeys and macros, and controls for common ship actions such as navigation and combat. Consult the project page for downloads and installation instructions.
GECP is a client-side aid that uses classic GE's DATA interface to obtain machine-readable ship and scan information; the BBS still runs the game. The original GETERM.DOC documents that interface for terminal-program authors. For a ge-next frontend, see GE3D and the redesigned DATA protocol.
