Jettison command
The JETTISON command permanently removes items from a ship's inventory, usually to free cargo space. It was added to classic Galactic Empire in the base 3.2c release.
Syntax
Classic and ge-next use the same basic syntax:
JETTISON amount item
JETTISON ALL item
amount must be a positive number no greater than the quantity aboard. ALL removes the ship's entire inventory of the selected item. Unlike some expanded ge-next cargo commands, JETTISON does not support a negative "all but" quantity.
Examples:
JETTISON 10 MISSILES
JETTISON ALL ION
JET 500 FOOD
The command has no location or speed requirement. Jettisoned cargo does not become a recoverable object in space and cannot be retrieved later; its count is simply subtracted from the ship.
Classic Galactic Empire omits spies and gold from the Jettison HELP command, and also doesn't include zippers in the example text.
ge-next
ge-next retains numeric and ALL jettisoning, but version 0.3 prohibited jettisoning men, troops, or spies. These three categories represent people rather than ordinary disposable cargo.
When torpedoes or mines are discarded, ge-next reports that they were defused and jettisoned. This is a presentation distinction only: all eligible items are removed immediately, and none leave a persistent object or hazard behind the ship.
Use the Transfer command instead when moving cargo between a ship and an orbiting planet. Use REPORT INVENTORY to inspect the ship's cargo and remaining capacity.
